I wanted to write a love story but with realistic themes. The concept was of a mental theme. Where the individual who hated himself would keep doing self-destruction thus the title is called Suicidal Love Story for every person he becomes close to, he destroys the relationship.

Characters:

Jin Williams name is a combination of two characters From Tekken video games. Jin Kazama and Nina Williams
Kaoru Kirishima name is a combination of the Evangelion characters Kaoru (Kaworu) Nagisa and Mana Kirishima
Peter Hunter's name is the combination of two Metal Gear Solid video game characters. Peter Stillman and Frank Jaeger (German for Hunter)

The first character created was actually Kaoru who was always intended to be a cerebral nightmarish villain, a manifestation of guilt and hatred in the main character's mind. The idea of that character always interested me and with that, I wrote the story.
The last character was Peter. I felt the story should not end in a "Get the girl" kind of way and as I wrote it, I knew it needed a source of tension at the end. He would be an antagonist, the real threat towards the main character. Luckily I did well in creating a concrete story that the themes bind it tightly from beginning, middle and end.

I knew straight away the girl he would end up with. I wanted to create that kind of story to make it realistic. One of them would always have been an antagonist towards Jin. I wanted it to be a sad love story.

The dreams:

I used them as a tool to confuse (and let's say troll) the reader, regardless though they are pivotal scenes in the story and reflect the mind of the character. Kaoru would always be fighting Jin in these dreams. Using those dream scenes as a device to tease and play with the reader's thoughts would make it in some way cathartic. Dreams are just dreams, they only reflect our fears and desires but reality is stranger than any dream.
