Awakening

I'm wrapped among the sheets.
I feel the warmth of my own body yet I can't move.
Faint words echoes, they are inaudible.
I can't hear clearly.
I can't open my eyes no matter how relentless I try.
I can faintly feel the soft hand touch me, is it my mother? I can't see her.

The golden gates of heaven will have to wait.
I'm drowning in the darkness. I'm floating within the abyss.
I can't feel the sheets. I can't feel my body. Where am I? I am blind.
No matter how hard I shout "WAKE UP!!" I cannot wake up.
My muscles are not moving. I am frozen as stone.

Floating within the conscious and unconscious.
In this conscious state I dream of wonderful dreams about my future.
Will I live to see my family? How pretty will my wife be?

Floating within the conscious and unconscious.
In this unconscious state I am no longer thinking or dreaming.
Out of existence; there is nothing here. I am nothing.

The golden gates of heaven will have to wait.
In between the realm of heaven and hell; the time has come for the darkness to rip open.
A light so bright and warm yet does not burn me opens my eyes.  I slowly regain my sense of time.
Finally I awaken to the world of reality and see my loving mother embrace me.
